Raspberries are becoming more expensive but...
The end of this year's season for domestic dessert raspberries is very unfavorable in terms of prices for producers and suppliers of these fruits in the wholesale market. In September, dessert raspberry prices in large wholesale markets remained the highest in years, but this unexpectedly came to an end in the first decade of the current month.
Instead of continuing to rise as the supply decreased towards the end of the campaign, raspberry prices began to fall. This drop practically happened overnight, with the average wholesale selling price decreasing by 9 percent, and in the following days of October, it deepened, totaling a 21 percent decline by the end of last week.
The beginning of this week brought a halt to this downward trend, with prices slightly strengthening. Currently, wholesale trading prices range from 24.00 to 34.00 PLN/kg most frequently. This is 11.5 percent higher than at the end of the previous week, but still far from the prices in September, when it averaged 33.00-34.00 PLN/kg. What is very significant is that the current prices are on average one złoty lower than at the end of the regular 2023 season.
Interestingly, there are still processing plants interested in buying raspberries for freezing. The scale of this demand is already small, but it exists. At this time of year, the season is usually long over. This shows that it was not easy at all for Polish industrial raspberries in the current campaign. This is confirmed by the forecasts of the Central Statistical Office regarding this year's harvest of these fruits - 18 percent lower than last year's. Let's remind these data in graphic form.
