Green beans - prices on the rise again.

Let's start by reminding that in the last week of August this year, we experienced a sharp drop in prices for green beans on the Polish wholesale market. As a result, the average selling price in large wholesale reached 5.00 PLN/kg. Even before the end of last month, this level fell below the average of the previous five years (at one point almost 19 percent below this average).

However, in the second decade of the current month, typical trends for this phase of the season returned to the wholesale bean market. Firstly, there was a decrease in current supply, followed by a rising price trend. The latter can be seen in the chart below.

Currently, the selling prices of green beans in large wholesale are mostly in the range of 6.00-8.00 PLN/kg. Looking at our chart, we can see that the recent upward trend was not very steep. From September 10th to 23rd, the average price of this vegetable increased by 30 percent. This is not insignificant, but it is nothing compared to the dynamics of the price decrease observed in August.

Nevertheless, this recent increase in green bean prices has clearly changed the current situation compared to previous years. Now, the average price has already risen above the five-year average level, and it is even the highest when compared to prices from the same period in the previous five seasons. Will this advantage be sustained? It largely depends on the weather, but it is quite likely.
