Has the price of beetroot started to drop?

The prices of young beets being harvested decreased in the Polish wholesale market throughout June and July. For most of that time, they were below the prices from all previous five seasons. However, this downward trend slowed down in the last decade of July, and in August, these vegetables started from a significantly better position compared to previous years. We can see this on our chart.

At the beginning of the regular season, in the middle of this month, the average selling price of washed and bagged beets in large wholesale was only lower than that of the previous season. However, it is now the third-highest price in comparison because it has dropped below the level from the end of August 2019 in the meantime.

The prices of beets in the large wholesale market have dropped to the range of 0.80-1.00 PLN/kg (0.19-0.23 EUR/kg). This is 5 percent less than mid-August, but still 6 percent more than at the beginning of the current month. However, is this recent decline in beet prices just a single correction, or is it rather the beginning of a seasonal downward trend related to the increase in current supply during the main harvest period?

This trend is clearly visible in the analysis of price changes on the wholesale beet market in almost every season. The scenario where we are currently experiencing the initial phase of such a downward trend is very likely. The first week of September will clarify the situation.
