Prices of beetroot are under pressure, but still high.

The situation on the Polish beet market has fundamentally changed over the past month, this time in favor of the sellers. Prices of beets "ready for sale" - washed and packed in bags, have increased by over one-fifth in wholesale. And since they were not low before, we now have an average selling price in wholesale at a record high level.

However, the recent days have brought an increase in the supply of beets, which seems to be putting increased pressure on their wholesale prices. There has already been a correction in selling prices in wholesale. They are currently in the range of 0.90-1.30 PLN/kg most often. Nevertheless, the pressure on prices is mainly visible in the market for beets sold "from the field" - dirty and in bulk. Here, prices have again dropped to the level of 0.20-0.30 PLN/kg, although there are also offers (mainly for elongated varieties) at 0.35-0.40 PLN/kg. Prices for beets in big bags, sorted, are currently 0.60-0.70 PLN/kg most often.

What scenario is emerging for the beet market in the coming weeks? Prices in wholesale will most likely remain higher than in previous years, but they may not necessarily be stable. There may be a seasonal decline in selling prices, similar to that in the 2022/2023 season. On the other hand, if the September forecasts of the Central Statistical Office (GUS) regarding the harvest of these vegetables - the worst in many years, are confirmed, the described periodic weakening of beet prices between November and January may either not occur at all, or it will be shallow and much shorter.
