What are the prices of broccoli?

The first decade of the current month brought a worsening of broccoli supply in the domestic market. This deterioration compared to the situation in July, when the availability of these vegetables in the fresh market was not high. As seen in the chart below, the upward trend at the beginning of the current month was another such occurrence in the regular broccoli season in the fresh market.

This time, the increase was not as significant as in the last decade of June this year. Nevertheless, prices still reached a record high level. Wholesale prices of broccoli ranged from 3.50 PLN/piece (0.82 EUR/piece) to 4.50 PLN/piece (1.05 EUR/piece), which is a 37 percent increase compared to the average of the same period in the previous five years. Since then, however, the supply situation in the broccoli market has slightly improved, and prices have fallen. Broccoli plants are coping with the vegetation in difficult agrometeorological conditions slightly better than cauliflower plants.

Currently, wholesale selling prices of these vegetables are mostly 3.00-4.00 PLN/piece (0.70-0.93 EUR/piece). This is 12.5 percent lower than the recent peak but still higher than in the previous five years. As shown in our chart, we are experiencing a second consecutive season with high broccoli prices in the fresh market (which does not entirely correspond to the pricing realities in procurement for processing). This trend is likely to continue in the coming weeks. For now, there are no signs of a broccoli glut.
