Chinese cabbage - prices have returned to last year's level.

The last week brought a slight improvement in the selling prices of Chinese cabbage in the large wholesale market in Poland. There was an average increase of 4 percent, following previous declines. As a result of this limited hike, the prices of "pekin" cabbage in the large wholesale market reached a level similar to that of the previous year. Currently, the selling prices of this cabbage (with packaging) range from 2.20-2.80 PLN/kg, depending on the quality and size.

As seen in our chart, the described increase was not enough to surpass the average prices from the past five seasons. It will be difficult to achieve this in the coming weeks. The demand for "pekin" cabbage is not showing the same strengthening trend as seen recently in the wholesale markets for white and red cabbage.

Perhaps the fact that current prices are similar to those from a year ago can be seen as a sign for the future? If this similarity persists in the coming weeks, the likelihood will increase that the spring prices in 2025 will follow the scenario from the 2023/2024 season. During that time, we experienced significant price hikes for Chinese cabbage in the second half of December.
