The white cabbage is holding steady.

Prices of white cabbage in the national wholesale market have managed to maintain stable prices. While this may not be uncommon during the August season, it is worth noting that such stable periods in the summer occur in seasons where cabbage prices are generally low. In seasons when prices are relatively high, August often brings a downward trend.

chart

As seen in our chart, in the 2024/2025 season, we have August with relatively high prices. However, in the previous five years, we had similar or higher prices three times. Currently, the selling prices of bagged white cabbage in large wholesale markets range mostly from 1.10 to 1.40 PLN/kg (0.26 to 0.33 EUR/kg). For comparison, on August 27th, only one year was more expensive, but in 2022, cabbage became more expensive in early September.

In any case, maintaining the current stability in the upcoming week would bring a significant qualitative change to the cabbage market compared to the previous year. The current average price would surpass last year's levels. This would be logical considering that this year's harvest is expected to be worse than that of 2023.

Will this happen? There are certain indications pointing in that direction. There is still a shortage of good-quality cabbage in the fresh market. The overall supply has increased, but this growth has occurred in the cabbage processing segment, impacting prices there. Not long ago, the minimum price for industrial cabbage was around 1 PLN/kg (0.23 EUR/kg), then it dropped to 0.85 PLN/kg (0.20 EUR/kg), and now it stands at 0.75 PLN/kg (0.18 EUR/kg).
