Cauliflower still on a price swing.
Bulk prices of cauliflower in Poland are not getting off their peculiar "price rollercoaster." In a relatively short time, we first had a rapid increase in the price of these vegetables in the national wholesale market - the average sales price skyrocketed from 2.50 zł/piece (0.58 EUR/piece) to 7.00 zł/piece (1.63 EUR/piece) within two weeks (+36 percent), only to then descend just as dramatically to 3.50 zł/piece (0.81 EUR/piece) (-50 percent). This time it took only about 10 days.
What awaits us now in terms of cauliflower wholesale prices? Are we facing another episode of this rollercoaster, this time up again? The recent price changes for these vegetables have been heading in that direction. Currently, the selling prices of cauliflowers in bulk are mostly between 3.00-4.50 zł/piece (0.70-1.05 EUR/piece), which is on average 7 percent higher than the price two days ago.
Our chart shows that this change has so far ensured that the average price of cauliflowers remains at the highest level compared to the previous five years. However, to maintain this, the price must continue to rise in the coming days, and quite dynamically. As we can see, a similar price increase occurred last year. It was not as high for now, but later it was not cheap.
This year, general trends in the cauliflower market may be similar, although it will largely depend on the weather. The upcoming weekend will be hot, but then temperatures are expected to be more moderate, which will be more conducive to cauliflower growth. Nevertheless, the challenges posed by this year's weather are significant, evident in yields and quality variations. Hence the cautious conclusion that despite various, maybe even quite abrupt, short-term trends - up and down - generally, prices will remain relatively high compared to previous years.
