Cauliflowers have become a little cheaper, but only a little.

The end of August and beginning of September brought some improvement in the supply of cauliflower on the domestic fresh vegetable market. The improvement was slight, but noticeable enough to affect the pricing of cauliflower in the domestic wholesale market.

The selling prices of cauliflowers ("ready to go") in the large Polish wholesale market dropped by an average of 1 złoty per piece compared to the peak level from the middle of last month. This represents a relative decrease of about 12.5 percent. However, the scale of this price reduction was not large enough to cause a breakthrough in the realities of this vegetable market segment.

Polish cauliflowers remain exceptionally expensive - the most expensive at this stage of the season compared to the past five years shown in the above chart. In fact, there has never been such a high price recorded for September 2 in the history of monitoring the prices of these vegetables conducted by the editorial team of fresh-market.pl.

Currently, the selling prices of cauliflowers range from 5.00 to 7.00 złoty per piece (1.17-1.63 EUR per piece), averaging 6.00 złoty per piece (1.40 EUR per piece). Compared to the price of 4.50 złoty per piece (1.05 EUR per piece) exactly a year ago—an increase of 33.3 percent year over year, which was previously a record high for September 2.

What will happen next with cauliflower prices? Everything depends on the weather, as the prices of cauliflowers are strongly correlated with synoptic conditions. It is known that the prices of these vegetables can change very significantly and frequently, but the most likely scenario now is a continuation of the decline to a level that is more "digestible" for the demand side of the market. However, this will only be possible if the weather extremes ease off and conditions become more optimal for vegetable cultivation.
