The increased supply of cauliflower has affected prices.
The season of domestic cauliflowers on the Polish market is inevitably coming to an end. This doesn't mean that these vegetables will disappear from the offerings of domestic wholesalers and retailers tomorrow or in a week, but on a larger scale in about two weeks, imports will definitely gain an advantage in wholesale trade. Currently, the cauliflower market in Poland is in a transitional phase. It is characterized by the fact that even with a decrease in the supply of domestic cauliflowers, their prices often drop at the end of the season - precisely because of the increasing influence of import prices.
What does the situation look like at the beginning of November 2023? It can be said that it largely mirrors the end of last year's season, but at slightly lower price levels. However, the shape of the average sales price curve from large wholesalers is very similar.
Currently, the wholesale selling prices of Polish cauliflowers (packaged) range from 4.00 to 6.00 PLN each. This is 17 percent less than a year ago. But, firstly, prices are falling, just like back then. And secondly, they are still much higher than in previous seasons. Compared to the end of October 2021 and 2022, this is a whopping +43 percent!
Wholesale selling prices of imported cauliflowers are currently in the range of 5.00 to 7.00 PLN each. Over the past week, they have dropped by as much as 23 percent. What's even more important, current prices of these vegetables are significantly lower than a year ago. The average price now is 6.00 PLN each, while it was 9.00 PLN each back then. This represents a year-on-year decrease of one-third. It's no wonder that the pressure on Polish cauliflower prices is greater than in the previous season.
