There is still a shortage of cauliflower.

The 2024 season marks another cauliflower campaign on the Polish market, with generally unfavorable weather conditions for the growth and quality of these vegetables. Conditions were already very poor last year. At that time, the prices of Polish cauliflowers in the wholesale market hit record highs from June onwards.

But now, in 2024, it seems that it may be even more challenging and worse in terms of cauliflower supply and quality. As seen in the chart below, prices of cauliflowers in the current campaign remain generally high. There was only one instance of a larger supply leading to a temporary price drop. There is no trace of that now.

Cauliflowers are not just in short supply, but dramatically scarce. This is evident from their wholesale prices, which easily surpassed the high prices from last year in August. Currently, the selling prices of domestic cauliflowers are in the range of 5.00-7.00 PLN/piece (1.17-1.64 EUR/piece) in large wholesale.

This is slightly lower than the price peak from last week (-11 percent). However, it is still significantly higher year-over-year (+40 percent) and well above the five-year average (+60 percent). There is still no expectation for a quick improvement in this regard. The weather conditions continue to be unfavorable. We are experiencing a return to hot summer weather, which is not beneficial for cauliflowers.
