Prices of Chinese cabbage are still going down, however...
The prices of Chinese cabbage in the Polish wholesale market have been falling since mid-August this year. In this long-term trend, we had some interruptions, and even one case of a corrective increase (in mid-September), but generally the "Chinese cabbage" market has been in a downward trend for the eighth week.
During this period, the average selling price of "Chinese cabbage" has dropped by as much as 58 percent. However, this decline started from a very high level, which is why the prices of this cabbage still remain higher than in the previous five seasons. Currently, the selling prices (with packaging) in large wholesale markets range from 2.20 to 3.50 PLN/kg. This is still nearly one-third higher year on year and 48 percent above the average from the previous 5 years.
The price decrease is the result of an improvement in the current supply of Chinese cabbage. The end of drought and heat has accelerated this process. However, despite this relative improvement, there is still no surplus of Chinese cabbage. Harvests will certainly be worse than normal, and this will continue to be reflected in prices. This means that the average price of Chinese cabbage may have already reached its seasonal minimum.
