Greenhouse cucumbers are cheaper again.
The situation on the wholesale cucumber market in Poland is now very similar to that of the previous year. We are in the peak period in terms of fresh cucumber supply. Greenhouse cucumbers are complemented by field cucumbers. This results in a drop in the prices of these vegetables in the wholesale market. Very similar to last year are the current prices of greenhouse cucumbers in large wholesale. Sales-wise, it is mostly between 3.00-3.50 PLN/kg (0.70-0.82 EUR/kg), averaging at 3.25 PLN/kg (0.76 EUR/kg). A year ago, it was 2.25 PLN/kg (0.53 EUR/kg). As we can see, the downward trend has not managed to bring the current price below the average long-term threshold. However, such a situation is likely to occur in the future. It is worth noting that wholesale cucumber prices can be very volatile, and these losses can be quickly recovered. For now, it is quite cheap, but not record-breakingly so. Fortunately, current prices are not the lowest compared to the previous five seasons, as is the case with many other domestic vegetables. In the greenhouse cucumber market, we had a season with much lower prices in July over the past five years (below 2.00 PLN/kg (0.47 EUR/kg)), which was in 2021. This season could have been much cheaper as well, but the weather "prevented" it. Also in the recent days. The prices of field cucumbers in purchases are mostly between 3.00-4.00 PLN/kg (0.70-0.94 EUR/kg) for cucumbers for pickling and 2.00-3.00 PLN/kg (0.47-0.70 EUR/kg) for gherkins. In small wholesale, the prices of field cucumbers are mostly around 3.00-5.00 PLN/kg (0.70-1.17 EUR/kg), although they start locally from 2.50 PLN/kg (0.59 EUR/kg) and can go up to 6.00 PLN/kg (1.41 EUR/kg).
