Green beans have matched their price record from 2022.

The past two weeks have brought a significant improvement in the prices of green beans on the Polish wholesale market. This is a result of unfavorable weather conditions in the previous month - heatwaves and local heavy rainfall. During this period, prices of green beans on the wholesale fresh market increased by as much as two-thirds.

The chart clearly shows this change and how it was fundamental compared to the previous five years. Prices of beans on the wholesale market have shifted from a level lower than the long-term average (which was the case at the beginning of last month) to an essentially record level, as we are aligning the current average price with that of the record season in 2022. Currently, the selling prices of green beans in large wholesale markets are mostly in the range of 8.00-12.00 PLN/kg, which is approximately 1.86-2.79 EUR/kg.

What can we expect in the coming days and weeks? It is difficult to predict with great certainty, as beans are one of those vegetables whose wholesale prices are very sensitive to weather conditions. And it is precisely the weather that is the key. If the conditions in the next weeks of August turn out to be better than those in July, we can expect an increase in the current supply of this vegetable and a reduction in prices, similar to what happened in the year 2022.

The question is whether the weather will actually improve, or whether August will be as challenging as July. And even if the weather is more optimal for vegetation, will nature recover from the earlier significant losses in crops, and how large will any potential price decrease be? It is likely that prices will not fall below the long-term average level.
