Weak finish to the green beens season.
The domestic green bean season in Poland for 2024 is coming to an end. At least when it comes to wholesale trade on a larger scale, as the vegetable will still be available for some time in small, local markets. However, this year the local small market may run out earlier than usual. The reason for this is the prices of green beans. Usually, towards the end of the season, prices rise, giving a kind of "bonus to resilient suppliers." This season, the situation is different. After a slump in August, the prices of green beans in the Polish wholesale market remained relatively low. Since then, they have not shown any tendency for dynamic growth. A certain increase in prices has occurred in recent days. But it was not particularly significant, and also not everywhere in the country did prices rise to the same extent. There are still regions where the wholesale prices of green beans are at the level of 6.00 PLN/kg. Generally, in wholesale trade on a larger scale, the current range is 6.00-8.00 PLN/kg. This averages to 7.00 PLN/kg, slightly more expensive than last year, but the difference is only +4 percent. Compared to the average of the previous 5 seasons, there is a +10 percent increase. However, it is worth noting that the low value of this average was influenced by poor prices in October of 2019 and 2020. Taking into account inflation and the increase in production costs, green bean prices in this final phase of the season should be at least around the level of 2022, which is about 9.00 PLN/kg.
