Will the prices of green beans continue their trend?
The end of June brought a break in the downward trend of wholesale prices for green beans. However, it turned out not to be a trend reversal but just a one-time correction. The discount quickly returned to the wholesale market for beans in Poland. Moreover, this trend gained even more momentum, especially in the second half of the current week.
This is clearly visible on our chart. The average selling price of beans in bulk sharply declined and quickly fell below the average price level of the previous five years. Currently, it has the lowest value compared to all prices in this comparison (to be precise, it has reached the lowest price level of the 2022 season). Currently, the selling prices of green beans in bulk are mostly in the range of only 1.16 to 1.86 EUR/kg.
With prices already at such a low level, can the downward trend still continue? Certainly. We are not yet at the peak of supply, as there are both greenhouse and open-field beans on the market. Looking at our chart, we can see that in the previous five years, prices always fell in the July-August period. The same awaits us this season.
The question is, how significant will the price reduction be? If the situation remains as unfavorable as it is now compared to previous years, it would mean a drop in the average price in bulk to around 0.58 EUR/kg. The only thing certain is the faster arrival of the peak supply phase, as the current season is ahead of the typical bean campaign calendar.
