Ukraine imports onions from Kyrgyzstan, India and China

Ukraine recently received its first large onion shipment from Kyrgyzstan, totaling nearly 150 tonnes. This was made possible by the early lifting of Kyrgyzstan's export ban in March 2023. Despite high logistics costs, favorable price differences between Kyrgyzstan ($0.45-0.50/kg) and Ukraine (over $1.2/kg) allowed for the export. Additionally, Ukraine imported onions from 9 countries, including Egypt, India, China, Lithuania, Moldova, the Netherlands, France, and Poland. Kyrgyzstan typically exports 6,000 to 19,000 tonnes of onions annually to countries like Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus.
