Cheaper prices for parsley

The prices of parsley started to decrease in the first decade of the current month. These are quite dynamic decreases. The selling price of washed and packed parsley in bags has dropped by around 35 percent since July 9. This is a typical trend related to the seasonal increase in supply. It would probably be even more dynamic if not for the weather – far from optimal for root vegetable crops.

It should be added that we are still in the early phase of the new parsley season, although there was an earlier start to harvesting and commercial campaigns, as seen across the entire vegetable market. From July 9, prices of washed and bagged parsley have fallen from the range of 9.00-14.00 PLN (2.10-3.27 EUR)/kg to 7.00-8.00 PLN (1.64-1.87 EUR)/kg. This gives the current average of 7.50 PLN (1.75 EUR)/kg.

This is significantly cheaper than last year, when the average was 10.00 PLN (2.34 EUR)/kg, and the downward trend only began after July 20, 2023. However, comparing to last season is not very favorable, as that campaign was delayed with exceptionally high prices. For example, two years ago, parsley prices in the wholesale market at the end of July did not exceed 4.00 PLN (0.93 EUR)/kg. Therefore, compared to that period, current prices still look good.

Finally, the question arises whether the current trend will continue. The most likely scenario is that there will be further discounts, as it aligns with the seasonality logic. How significant will they be? The key factor here is the weather. Currently, heatwaves and heavy rains have affected parsley crops. There is significant pressure from diseases and pests. It is known that even late varieties have suffered. If the weather improves, some of these losses may be offset by nature. If not, the losses will remain substantial, and the downward trend will slow down.
