Parsley is cheaper than last year.
August brought a continuation of the downward trend in wholesale prices of parsley root. It is worth noting, however, that the price decrease in August was not as dynamic as in July, when parsley from the new harvest entered the market and fundamentally changed the supply realities. Nevertheless, even these August declines were enough for the average selling price of washed parsley to fall below the level from similar periods last year.
Currently, wholesale selling prices of such parsley are most often in the range of 3.00-5.00 PLN/kg (0.70-1.17 EUR/kg). In a year-on-year comparison, this represents an average decrease of about 1 PLN per kilogram (0.23 EUR/kg), or one-fifth of the value from the previous year. Last year, we also experienced significant price drops for parsley at this stage of the season. Therefore, if the above-described trend continues, we can expect further price reductions for parsley in the fresh market in the coming weeks. This trend is seen in wholesale markets, but interestingly, the decrease in wholesale prices for parsley does not seem to translate well into the retail market.
The lowest level of the average price in wholesale that parsley washed in bulk reached last season was 3.00 PLN/kg (0.70 EUR/kg) around the end of September and October 2023. This season, it will most likely be cheaper. Remember that this year's harvest, particularly for parsley, is expected to be higher than in 2023. Therefore, we may see prices in autumn similar to those from the 2022/2023 season, with an average of 2.35 PLN/kg (0.55 EUR/kg) during the cheapest period of the harvest phase.
