Potatoes - there are constant attempts to lower prices visible all the time.

The supply of potatoes in the Polish wholesale market is generally not high, but it is important to distinguish between the awareness that this year's harvest was not plentiful and the actual inflow of goods into the market. In the latter aspect of the supply situation, we have seen significant volatility recently. The current week has brought a noticeable increase in offers to sell potatoes, and these offers come at low prices.

We are talking about prices around 10.00 PLN per 15 kg sack, with some reports even mentioning prices as low as 9.00 PLN. However, this merchandise consists of low-quality potatoes meant for quick sale as they are not suitable for storage. This favors the demand side of the market, which is interested in buying as cheaply as possible and continues to exert pressure on price reduction. The clearance sale of lower-quality goods after the long weekend is thus beneficial to such buyers.

At the same time, in large wholesale markets, potato prices remain generally stable. Despite the current unfavorable situation, good-quality produce offered in sufficient quantities has not decreased in price. Selling prices for yellow and red varieties range from 0.73-1.20 PLN/kg, depending on the variety and purpose (the highest prices are for potatoes with research, intended for export). White potatoes are priced at 0.93-1.67 PLN/kg.

So far, the pressure for price reduction from buyers (supported by the policy of clearance sales at low prices by some producers) has not been effective. The question remains whether potato prices will withstand this pressure in the coming weeks. The likelihood of this happening essentially increases with each passing day. Our chart shows that in both cheaper and more expensive seasons, potato prices do not decline in the second half of November and December.
