FP Coetzee from Potatoes South Africa pointed out the significant price hike in potatoes that occurred as a result of decreased production due to load-shedding in 2023. Following a reduction of 1,600 hectares, prices skyrocketed from R42.87 per 10kg to R72.92 per 10kg. If an additional reduction of 2,100 hectares were to happen as proposed, the prices are likely to rise even further.
