A prolonged outbreak of Salmonella Strathcona has affected more than 400 people in 17 countries since early 2023, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). Between January 2023 and September 2025, 437 confirmed infections were reported. Italy and Germany each have recorded a significant number of cases.
