Tomatoes are cheaper, but...
At the end of last month, there was a decrease in wholesale prices of national greenhouse red tomatoes. In relative (percentage) terms, it was not a particularly large price reduction. The selling prices of these tomatoes in large wholesale markets decreased by 11.5-12.5 percent (according to data from our editorial price monitoring at fresh-market.pl).
Currently, the selling prices of red greenhouse tomatoes in large wholesale markets are mostly as follows: size A is priced in the range of 0.73-0.88 EUR/kg, size B 0.77-0.92 EUR/kg, size BB 0.81-0.96 EUR/kg, and BBB 0.85-1.00 EUR/kg.
As seen in our chart showing changes in the average price of wholesale tomatoes size B, although such a large relative change occurred, the current listing is below the level from the same period last year. Thus, the prices of red tomatoes have once again ceased to be record-high compared to the previous five seasons, a status they held for a few days last month.
Therefore, prices are not at record highs, but they are far from the lowest levels seen in the past five years. As shown with the example of size B tomatoes, the average price is lower than last year's by a small margin (-4 percent), but higher than prices from the other four campaigns.
